Ghana ready for investments in health care – Dr Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has assured the investor community of the many business opportunities existing in the healthcare sector.

He mentioned some reforms being undertaken by the government, including the abolition of the 15 ‘nuisance taxes’ in the 2017 Budget Statement, the introduction of the paperless port system and online registration of prospective businesses.

Vice President Bawumia gave the assurance when he led a delegation, including the First Lady Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo and some senior government officials to the Ajman Ruler’s Court and the Gulf Medical University in the United Arab Emirates.

Dr Bawumia held separate interactions with His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council, UAE and Ruler of Ajman, and other officials of Ajman.

The Vice President and the First Lady outlined a number of areas for mutual cooperation between Ghana and Ajman, especially in the training of Ghanaian medical personnel and establishment of medical facilities in Ghana.

The delegation was taken round the Gulf Medical University’s (GMU) educational and research facilities.

Dr. Bawumia said: “We are very impressed with what we have seen here. We are happy that many Ghanaian students are pursuing their medical education here. We hope to see this remarkable model of healthcare, medical education and research replicated in Ghana.”

Mr. Thumbay Moideen, the Founder and President of the Board of Trustees of GMU, said it was in the process of establishing campuses in three new countries, including Ghana.

Vice President Bawumia is in the United Arab Emirates to participate in the on-going Global Business Forum Africa taking place in Dubai.

He will return to Accra on Friday.
