Ghana’s Ambassador to Slovenia, resident in Italy, Her Excellency Mrs. Evelyn Anita Stokes-Hayford presented her Letters of Credence to the Slovenia President, His Excellency Dr. Danilo Türk, in Ljubljana.
Ambassador Stokes-Hayford, was accompanied to Slovenia by Messrs Charles Baah (Minister in charge of Consular Affairs), Simon Atieku (First Secretary in charge of Political and Economic Affairs) and Mrs. Cynthia Hayford (First Secretary in charge of Administration) all from the Ghana Embassy in Rome and was received by His Excellency Dr. Danilo Türk upon arrival at the Presidential Palace in Ljubljana.
Her Excellency Mrs. Stokes-Hayford, after presenting her Letters of Credence held a closed door meeting with the Slovenian President. She conveyed warm felicitations on behalf of the President of Ghana, His Excellency Prof. John Evan Atta Mills, the Government and the people of Ghana to His Excellency President Danilo Türk and the Government and good people of Slovenia. She also acknowledged the strong relationship between Ghana and Slovenia pledging Ghana’s commitment to further strengthen this relationship. In his response, His Excellency President Türk recalled the good relations that existed between Ghana and the former Yugoslavia, of which Slovenia was part, and expressed the hope that Ghana and Slovenia could build on the past historical bonds to further, strengthen ties for the benefit of the people of the two countries. President Türk also extended warm greetings to His Excellency Prof. Atta Mills, the Government and people of Ghana.
The brief but colourful and impressive ceremony ended with an inspection of Guard of Honour by Her Excellency Mrs. Stokes-Hayford after which she held bilateral meetings with Slovenian Government Officials, the President of Slovenia Chamber of Commerce and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps. Whilst in Ljubljana, the Ambassador used the opportunity to pay a courtesy call on Dr. Peter Bossman, a Ghanaian-born doctor who has been living in Slovenia for the past 30 years and was recently elected as Mayor of Slovenia coastal town of Piran. The Ambassador congratulated him and gave him goodwill message from the Government and people of Ghana and told him the whole of Ghana was proud of his achievement and rejoices with him.
Dr. Bossman took time off his busy schedule to show the Ambassador and her team places of interest within the city.
