Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei Opare to be honoured at YAWC 2019

The Chief of Staff of the Republic of Ghana, Akosua Frema Osei Opare has been nominated to be celebrated at the 4th Young African Women Congress (YAWC) which is set to take place in Accra, Ghana from 21st to 25th July 2019 under the theme, “Grassroots Mobilisation for Women’s Empowerment: Young Women Lead”.

She will be honoured in relation to her contributions towards women empowerment in Ghana and across some parts of Africa.

A special event dubbed “Hon. Akosua Frema Osei Opare Day” will be held in her honour on Tuesday 23rd July within the period of the congress.

At an extensive meeting at the Jubilee House, the seat of Ghana’s Government in Accra on Wednesday 19th June 2019, ExLA Group led by the Executive Director, Mr. Daniel Osei Tuffuor and Board Member of the Group, Madam Carol Annang, briefed the Chief of Staff on the event which is meant to recount her achievements and celebrate her as part of major activities at the congress to inspire good leadership on the continent.

In her response, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei Opare expressed joy at the recognition of her achievements while appreciating the Group for the honour done her. She also congratulated the Group for staying committed to promoting good leadership in Africa and empowering women and girls. She then confirmed her participation in the congress.

The “Hon. Akosua Frema Osei Opare Day” is the first in a series of events to recognise and celebrate astute women of Africa for their contributions to women empowerment for national and global impact. The day is specifically named after the woman proposed to be celebrated at the specific congress.

Akosua Frema Osei Opare has been a public figure for a number of years, having served in various capacities in Ghana and some parts of Africa. She has distinguished herself in the areas of academia, politics and international civil service, hitherto without disdain. She has been an inspiration to many and now crowns it with her current position as Chief of Staff of the Republic of Ghana, the first woman to achieve that feat in Ghana and West Africa.

The Young African Women Congress (YAWC) is a Pan-African event opened to young women of African descent within the age limits of 18years and 45years. It is a platform which fosters knowledge-sharing and cultural exchanges among nations and generations. Major activities at the congress include Keynote Presentation, Panel Discussions, Group Brainstorming Sessions, display of Africa’s progressive culture as well as Project Story Presentations by delegates. There is also a full day trip to interesting sites to promote Africa’s heritage and tourism.

Its main objective is captured in its motto: Empowering Women for Continental Development and Integration for a Better World.
