Ghana's Envoy Meets Kabbah

The President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has told the new Ghanaian High commissioner to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Kabral Blay-Amihere that the already cordial relationship between the two countries will continue to grow from strengthen to strength.

He said Ghana has contributed immensely to ensure that Sierra Leone achieves lasting and sustainable peace.

The president made these remarks at the presidential lodge last Friday during the presentation ceremony of letter of accreditation of Ghana's High Commission to the Head of State.

President Kabbah said his government and people of Sierra Leone would never forget the role Ghana played during the turbulent period the country went through. He said Ghana contributed troops in ECOMOG and now in UNAMSIL.

The president said their gesture was a clear manifestation of Ghana's commitment in ensuring that peace and stability prevail within the sub region and Africa as whole.

He assured the new High Commissioner of his personal support and cooperation and that of his government in the discharge of his diplomatic functions in Sierra Leone.

High Commissioner Kabral Blay-Amihere, thanked President Kabbah and his government on behalf of his President John A. Kuffour, saying that the people of Ghana have been following the disarmament process in this country, which he described as very encouraging.

Envoy Kabral said his country fully supports all activities in UNAMSIL, which are aimed at achieving lasting peace in Sierra Leone. He assured President Kabbah of his government's determination to foster the cordial diplomatic relation that exists between Sierra Leone and Ghana.

Earlier, High Commissioner Kabral Blay-Amihere was introduced to the president by Dr. Ahmed Ramadan Dumbuya, the minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Envoy Kabral is a veteran journalist and until his new assignment was President of the West Africa Journalists Association (WAJA). He is 49 and married with five children.
