The Parliament of Ghana has announced that registration for elected Members of Parliament (MPs) of the ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic will commence today, Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
A statement issued by Camillo Pwamang, Deputy Coordinator, Dissolution/Inauguration Committee, and a Deputy Clerk to Parliament, copied to the Ghana News Agency, Accra, on Tuesday, said: “The registration process will begin online, with targeted messages inviting members to register via WhatsApp or email.”
It was also announced that physical registration was scheduled for Thursday, January 2, to Monday, January 6, 2025.
The statement noted that MPs who required further clarification or assistance could contact the registration officers at 055 022 2200 or 0503634466.
While touching on the inauguration and dissolution events, the statement said the election of the Speaker and swearing-in of the Speaker-elect and MPs-elect will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025.
“…. Election of the Speaker is at 2300hours, members to be seated at 2100hours and swearing-in of Speaker-elect and MPs-elect will be at 12 midnight,” it said.
The statement added that on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 0800 hours, a bus will transport MPs from Parliament to the Independence Square Accra for the swearing-in of the President-elect and Vice-President-elect, which will be held at 1000 hours.
It urged MPs to be seated by 0900 hours.
