Government has stated that Ghana’s diplomatic relations with China is intact in spite of the brouhaha over the deportation of illegal Chinese miners.

The Chinese ambassador and some Chinese officials have questioned the treatment of Chinese nationals arrested for engaging in illegal mining.

They have held series of meeting with the vice president following the reported attacks on the Chinese miners.

But Deputy Minister of Information Minister, Murtala Mohammed, said this will not spark diplomatic row between Ghana and China.

He said “the understanding was that government should do everything possible to protect their nationals and of course you should expect every government to do that including Ghana when confronted with a similar situation, but I can’t imagine how that can damage the diplomatic relationship between Ghana and China”.

The deputy minister added that the Chinese have not accused the state of victimizing its nationals, but just calling on government to do everything possible to ensure that their nationals are not manhandled.

Hon. Murtala stated that the government tax force against galamsey is not targeting anybody, but people who are engaged in illegal mining in the country.
