A Ghanaian woman living in the United Kingdom (UK) recently shared the challenges she faced while seeking healthcare in the UK.

She described the process she had to follow, including making appointments and the limited availability of health practitioners.

She expressed frustration with the system, noting that even after following all the required steps, the chances of seeing a doctor were slim.

Comparing the UK’s healthcare system to Ghana’s, she stated that she believes Ghana’s system is superior. In Ghana, there is no need to book appointments. Patients can walk into a hospital at any time and receive immediate care from a doctor or nurse.

“In Ghana, you can simply go to the hospital when you feel unwell or have a fever. In the UK, you must register with a local hospital when you fall ill. You then have to call the hospital to schedule an appointment. Appointment times are restricted, with some hospitals only allowing bookings between certain hours,” she explained in a video posted by Instablog9japbm on Instagram.

“If you call outside of those hours, you cannot book an appointment, even if you are sick. When you call at 9 o'clock, you might be told that you are the 20th person in line and will have to wait. After waiting, you may be informed that the doctor can only see you the next day or later. All of this while you are unwell,” she added.
