Ghana set to achieve environmental sanity and sustainable development

Accra Dec 2, GNA - The Ministry of Environment and Science, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency, is developing the strategy and implementation plan to facilitate environmental sanity. Mr Edward Osei Nsenkyire Chief Director of the Ministry, who announced this at the opening of a two- day workshop in Accra, said the Project would afford Ghana an opportunity to look at capacity development issues to ensure sustainable management of the environment. The workshop will review and update Ghana's Environmental Assessment programme, which aims at establishing close links between global environmental management and the national sustainable development goals.

The project dubbed: "National Capacity Self-Assessment" (NCSA) is a Global Environmental Facility project with the objective to ensure that Ghana is able to effectively implement the Millennium Development Goals, that include the eradication of disease, ignorance, hunger and promote sustainable development.

The workshop would among other things identify capacity needs and constraints associated with the international conventions ratified by Ghana and the strengthening of dialogue, information exchange and cooperation among stakeholders.

Mr Fifi Korsah-Brown, Consultant and Project Coordinator urged the participants to focus on the maximum benefits to be derived from the Project.
