Ghana to contest in World Humanity Beauty Pageant

Ghana has set in motion the process to contest the World Humanity Beauty Pageant 2012, an international competition that focuses on humanitarian causes worldwide to be staged in Barbados.

Miss Humanity Beauty Pageants is an ambassadorial portfolio which promotes humanitarian projects through entertainment as well as directing governments’ attention to the destructive nature of child labour, human trafficking, domestic violence, hunger, and poverty.

Launching the Humanity Beauty Pageant which is under the auspices of Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in Accra, Mr Adjei Anang, the Executive Director of Xclusive Productions Ghana, said the pageant would create a platform for the engagement of government, private sector and celebrities in social and charitable activities.

He said Miss Humanity Beauty Queen will be an advocate on humanitarian issues, promote tourism and serve as cultural envoy across the world.

As part of the process in selecting a true Humanity Beauty Queen for Ghana, audition documents have been deposited at Accra - Koala Shopping Centre at Osu, Legon and Trade Fair Centre.

At Takoradi the designated centre is Akroma Plaza; Kumasi Polytechnic and Radio Lynk; and Cape Coast, Atlantis FM.

The eventual winner will represent the country in the World Humanity Beauty Pageant in Barbados and together with the first three runner-ups will undertake humanitarian projects with Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice and other corporate bodies for one year.

Mrs. Juliana Azumah-Mensah, the Minister of Women and Children Affairs, commended Xclusive Productions Ghana for accepting the challenge of leading the nation in identifying a suitable representative for the Miss Humanity International competition.

She said the Pageant would expose the mix of talents and skills of lots of young women who will be encouraged to take up socially beneficial activities to promote the status of women and national cultural values in Ghana and beyond.

The Minister also commended MJ Grand Hotel, Hisense Ghana Limited, Goldman Capital Support and Brent Sage Consult for supporting the project which aims at promoting internal tourism and empowering Ghanaians women.

Humanity Beauty Pageant 2011 was won by Miss Lesotho, Karabelo Mokoalla, 24, a former Miss World candidate. The 1st runner-up was Earlene Labassiere, Miss Dominica, while the 2nd runner-up was Miss Philippines, Czarina Gatbonton. Misses South Africa and Canada completed the top 5.

Other titles for grab are Miss Congeniality; Miss Photogenic; Best Swimwear; Best Gown; Best Talent; and People’s Choice.
