Ghana will be the first country in West Africa to get the first purpose-built vaccine manufacturing factory after German company, Merck KGaA and Ridge Management signed a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) to that effect on Wednesday, 13 December 2017.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who witnessed the signing of the MoU lauded fruitful Ghana and Germany bilateral engagements which has resulted in several areas of support for Ghana, one of which, will be the construction of a vaccine producing company, which, Dr Bawumia describes as one of its kind in West Africa.
The MoU follows fruitful discussions with Brigitte Zypries, Germany's Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy and a large business delegation who accompanied the German President, H.E. Frank-Walter Steinmeier on a three-day visit to Ghana.
In addition, there was a signing of another MoU for the construction of a renewable energy plant.
The MoU was between Siemens AG and Rotan Energy Pte for the construction of 330mw gas-fired combined cycle power plant for Ghana.
Dr Bawumia who shared pictures of the signing ceremony on Facebook added that, the energy project is “projected to be the cheapest on the market and when integrated into our national grid, would significantly reduce the cost of electricity”.
