Ghana is to hold an international book fair in November and the organisers say they have received over 196 million cedis from corporate sponsors towards the fair.
Mr Prince Quarcoo, exhibition director of the Ghana Trade Fair Company (GTFC), told a gathering of sponsors on Thursday that trade fairs are generally difficult to organise because of the huge financial cost.
He said it is important for companies and individuals to assist organisers to ensure a successful fair. The theme of the book fair is "A reading child, an enlightened adult."
Mr Lawson Gidigasu, general manager (operations) of the GTFC, said sponsorship packages are necessary "if we are to encourage our children to read".
Mr Keith Christian Appiah-Num, human resource manager in the ministry of education, said education is the key to development and efforts should be made to encourage children to develop reading habits. He asked writers and publishers to make their books interesting to motivate children to read.
