Ghana will host the 6th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Gulf of Guinea Commission in Accra.

The summit will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

It will be under the theme “Building a Secure and Prosperous Gulf of Guinea Region for Sustainable Development.”

The summit aims to assess the progress of the Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC).

It also seeks to propose measures to enhance its objective of promoting cooperation, peace, security, and sustainable development among member states.

The Gulf of Guinea Commission is a framework for consultation and cooperation among Gulf of Guinea countries, focussing on conflict prevention, management, and resolution, particularly border demarcation and natural resource exploitation within overlapping Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs).

A statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry said the summit will be preceded by meetings of the Council of Ministers on August 5, 2024, and the Committee of Experts on August 4, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

It added that this high-level gathering presents an opportunity for member states to reaffirm their commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable development, ensuring a secure and prosperous Gulf of Guinea region for future generations.
