Accra, Feb. 11, GNA - Leaders from the health and development sectors of West Africa will convene in Accra next week for a four-day meeting aimed at returning family planning to the forefront of the national and regional development agendas in the sub-region. A statement issued in Accra on Friday said more than 250 key stakeholders would develop action plans for repositioning family planning in their countries.

Participants are expected to come from the health, education, economic development, community mobilisation, business, youth, gender and religion sectors.

"Armed with these strategies, participants will return home with the tools they need to ensure the health and well-being of their families, nations and region. Through repositioning family planning, West Africans can work together towards a healthier, more secure future."

The statement said like poverty and HIV/AIDS, unmet needs for family planning was a problem with consequences, which reached beyond the boundaries of individual sectors.

"Successfully repositioning family planning relies upon the coordination and collaboration of all sectors, both within the government and in civil society."
