Ghana to provide technical assistance to Palestine

Accra, July 18, GNA - Mr Akwesi Osei-Adjei, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and NEPAD, has said Ghana is considering the provision of technical expertise to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) for the improvement of its local government structure. Mr Osei-Adjei, who participated in a two-day conference of member countries of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership Ministerial conference, held in Indonesia, said the assistance would enable the PNA to properly and effectively act on behalf of the Palestinian people with the aim of enhancing good governance.

In a statement issued by the sector Ministry on Friday, the Minister said the new Asian-African strategic Partnership Ministerial Conference sought to fashion out political solutions and donor assistance for the resolution of the problems of the Palestinian people. At the end of the conference the co-chairs, South Africa and Indonesia, issued a statement highlighting the commitment of the participating countries to provide over a period of five years capacity building programmes for the PNA.

The conference was opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia and attended by representatives of 56 African and Asian countries, a number of Latin American countries and international organisations. The statement said the Minister also undertook a working visit to Malaysia where he held discussions with business leaders and officials on ways of enhancing economic corporation and deepening business ties.
