Accra, Jan. 17, GNA- The Greater Accra Regional Police Command on Wednesday proposed security measures that should be observed during the African Cup of Nations.
A statement signed by Inspector Kwaku Dompreh, Public Affairs Directorate of the Accra Regional Command said, in as much as they expected visitors to enjoy the usual Ghanaian hospitality without any hindrance, guests must also respect the laws of the country. Outlining the measures, The Police said taxi drivers should avoid taking excess passengers, be careful of very high prices and avoid secluded, quiet and unfamiliar routes.
It advised taxi drivers and car owners not to give their cars to spare drivers and the public must avoid giving and requesting for lifts and drivers must drive to the nearest police station if they suspected any passenger.
"Always park your vehicle in well-lit and busy areas, lock all doors and roll windows as soon as you enter your car." The Police also cautioned that doors and windows in houses should be well secured, individuals should check the identity of whoever was at the door before they opened it and children not be allowed to open doors and accept gifts from strangers.
"Check the background of your housemaids, drivers, babysitters and cooks. Train them to be observant and also confirm from you every information received from strangers," the statement added. "Be careful of people who say they have lost their way and want direction, always walk on the side of the road facing the on-coming vehicles and be careful when using the public phone," the police said. The police held that it expected all and sundry to observe the measures so that they could be safe during the tournament and asked citizens to take certain amount of precaution even before the police came in to save any situation that might arise.
