The family of the tenant who was shot to death by his landlord at Ofankor has demanded justice for their deceased relative.

Spark Benjaime, described as a noble man by his family, died last week after receiving multiple gunshots from his landlord on May 24, 2020.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb at his family house at Fise, a suburb of Accra, father of Spark Benjamin, Mr. Joseph Okyere called on authorities to ensure that justice is served.

“This is a great loss to us. We want justice to prevail. We know there is freedom but there is also justice in Ghana. We want the laws in this country to work.”

Reacting to allegations of a mystery woman being the cause for his son losing his life, Mr Okyere said, “What we have been hearing is that there is a mystery lady somewhere that the landlord contracted my son to help him woo is untrue. These are stories that the landlord is telling to sway public attention.”

“Even if the mystery woman's story is true, does the laws of the country allow him to take my son’s life?” he questioned.

On her part, mother of Spark Benjamine, Stella Okyere said her murdered son was destined to be a star.

“My son’s death is really a blow to us. He was a beacon of hope. We are not rich but Benjamin was a big inspiration to us. He always told me that my labour will not be in vain. He also used to tell me that he and his siblings are stars in waiting so I should watch out.”

“I surrender all to God, he is the judge of all judges. All I wish for is justice for us,” she concluded.

On May 24, 2020, a landlord, Victor Stephen Nana Kankam, reportedly murdered his tenant at Ofankor in the Greater Accra region.

The landlord, according to police extract, shot budding musician Spark Benjamine, who was rushed to the police station with multiple injuries.

The victim was subsequently rushed to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

DSP George Asare, the district commander and his team who went to the crime scene said they saw a pool of blood at the entrance of the deceased’s rented apartment.

The suspect has been detained to assist the police in their investigations.
