Accra, March 27, GNA - Ghanaian Christians are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ about 2000 years ago with church services and conventions.

Preaching the sermon at the Ghana Police Church, the Chaplain-General, the Very Reverend Benjamin Dennis Quansah said the resurrection of Jesus Christ showed that God was still in control and was still on his throne.

He said the resurrection power made all things anew adding that all the old things had passed away and called for total reconciliation in the country.

Very Reverend Quansah said even sceptical Thomas eventually had to accept the reality of the resurrection event and urged Christians to seize the resurrection power, which Christ had bestowed and do away with adulterous life, hatred and cheating.

He said with the resurrection, Christians have acquired dual citizenship - that of the earth and Heaven - "we are citizen of Heaven". "Jesus is alive today; Jesus meets us every time; Jesus reigns through the Church; witness the power of his resurrection by showing love to one another; for the old things are passed away."

Explaining why Easter does not have a fixed date like Christmas that is celebrated on December 25, the Very Reverend J.M.Y. Edusa-Eyison, Associate Minister, said the first Easter was celebrated on 14th of the Jewish month of Nissan, which strode March and April.

"Easter is celebrated on the Sunday after the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox on March 21," he said.
