Ghanaian Community in the Greater Toronto Area is Organizing a Vigil and Fundraising in Support of Victims of the Flood/Fire Disaster in Accra

Ghanaians living in the Greater Toronto Area of Canada as well as their well-wishers, in response to the death of our brothers and sisters in Accra, Ghana, due to the flood and inferno, will hold a prayer vigil and fundraising event on Friday June 12th, 8:00 pm – 12midnight at Apostles Continuation Hall (10 Belfield Road, Etobicoke) to practically demonstrate their solidarity with the victims back home.

The event is being coordinated by Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario (GCAO) and the Ghanaian Clergy in Toronto to harness our resources and prayers to contribute in our own small way to assist the victims.

In an interview with the Executive Secretary of GCAO, Emmanuel C. Duodu underscored the urgency of such community initiative! He said, "Reading the news and listening to the harrowing stories of what happened and the devastation caused we plead with all Ghanaians of all political, ethnic and religious stripes in Ontario to unite to help our people back home. You might have seen photos of those dead, displaced have nothing left in their lives, some maimed and some emotionally traumatized

"We are compassionate and caring people and we trust you will rise up to alleviate the suffering of the victims", he pleaded.

In the coming days, a committee made up of the Clergy and community leaders is being set up to work out the following:

a. How the money will be chaneled to the victims

b. Reach out to the Red Cross, Canada if our donations can be matched by Government

c. The bank account opening for

donations

d. Program for the evening

All Ghanaians as well as friends of Ghana in the GTA and all of Ontario are kindly invited to this humanitarian program
