...On Sustainability, Poverty and Humanity at 16 Beacon
On Tuesday, October 22, 2013, the BBA hosted Osagyefuo Ofori Panin, the King of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area in Ghana, the Chancellor of the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies, and the immediate former Chairman of Ghana Environmental Protection Agency.
The King arrived at the BBA in full tribal garb, which was a refreshing change from the everyday suit and tie of the BBA. He spoke eloquently on topics such as sustainability and global warming, and shared his experience with the Boston legal community.
“The event provided an amazing opportunity for BBA members to hear about some of the crucial environmental issues facing this country from a completely different perspective. The King’s remarks on how pressing world-wide issues such as climate change, sustainability, agriculture, women’s rights and child welfare are all interrelated and essential to resolve were timely and insightful. It was fascinating to be able to engage in an intimate setting with such a wise and thoughtful governmental leader from Africa.”- Carl F. Dierker, Regional Counsel, U.S. EPA -- Region 1, New England
