Ghanaian and Nigerian movies cost GHc.1.00 in South Africa, Flex newspaper has gathered. South Africa is not traditionally a country of commercial movies because they are much noted for being good in making of soap operas.

According to Flex newspaper reporter Mustapha Inusah Attractive who is in Pretoria currently, South Africa for a meeting with African movie makers to discuss the betterment of Ghana- Nigerian movies, although majority of Ghana-Nigerian movie fans are in south Africa, it is not easy to make sales from Ghana of these movies in South Africa.

In a meeting with stake holders, Stanley Emeka Ewulu, member of Directors Guild of Nigeria, member of Association of Nigeria Movie Makers and CEO of DS Image Maximum Concept who is now based in South-Africa with the aim of breaking through the South African market explained that those who started selling the West African Films in SA were those who started selling the movies for 1cedi and their reasons were that South Africans like cheap priced movies and because of that they prefer buying pirated CDs than the original copies, which made most of them to start selling the pirated copies to meet the market standard.

Ernest Opoku, Ghanaian movie producer and CEO of Media Africa based in Pretoria also added that African Magic is part of the reason why South Africans don't buy West African movies. He explained that a high percentage of movies shown on African Magic are West African movies. “South Africans will only ask of a part 2 of a particular West African movie if African magic has shown it,” said Ernest.

After a long debate on the way for West African movies in South Africa, another meeting was scheduled to revisit the issue on 9th of February, 2013.
