A STUDENT who jumped out of the window of a Liverpool University building had become depressed after suffering two miscarriages.
Dorcas Esi Assan, 29, from Ghana, plunged to her death from the eighth floor of the Roxy Building on Myrtle Street, an inquest heard.
Mrs Assan, who was studying for a masters degree in business administration and environmental management, was found by her husband Joseph on the pavement.
Mr Assan, 35, was arrested by police on suspicion of murder when she was found but later released.
The inquest heard Mrs Assan, from Underley Street, Wavertree, suffered two miscarriages within a short time.
She told Ayo Akinsanya, the pastor at the Deeper Christian Life church in Toxteth where the couple attended, that she had felt suicidal ever since.
In a statement read out at the inquest the pastor said: "She found she was having a baby in February but suffered a miscarriage in March.
"A few weeks later she had an operation for an ectopic pregnancy. She was disappointed and upset.
"In July she showed me a letter she had written which explained she felt the spirit of God had left her and she was having suicidal thoughts.
"She had tried to kill herself." Pathologist Paul Johnson found Mrs Assan, who had lived in Liverpool since May 2000, suffered multiple injuries.
The inquest heard Mr Assan, 35, had been studying in the same building as his wife hours before her death on August 19.
In a statement Mr Assan said: "I was supposed to meet up with her and some friends and leave the building after 6pm but she was not there.
"I started to look for her and something caught my eye outside the building. I saw it was Dorcas lying face up on the pavment. I realised I had heard a bang outside earlier."
The couple were married in Ghana in March 1999.
Liverpool coroner Andre Rebello recorded a verdict of suicide.
