Ghanaian-born American soldier presents sports items to school

Bodomase (Ash), Feb 17, GNA - Akwasi Anokye-Gyamfi, a 32-year-old Ghanaian-born soldier in the United States Army on Monday presented a set of football jerseys and 400 ball point pens worth over 5.7 million cedis to the Bodomase Methodist Junior Secondary School, his alma mater.

Private Anokye-Gyamfi, who is on holidays in the country also promised to rehabilitate the school's park at an estimate cost of five million cedis, part of which was destroyed by erosion.


Work on the rehabilitation of the school park is expected to start soon.


Private Anokye-Gyamfi said it was about time that the people come together to contributions their widows might to assist with the development of their communities.

He said the idea to support his school was formed while on a mission to South Korea and said the contribution was therefore his widow's mite to his alma mater.


Private Anokye-Gyamfi, who completed from the school in 1986 assured his year group that he had plans to improve upon conditions in the school and called for their unalloyed support. Mr Atta Poku Junior, the head teacher of the school who received the items, thanked the donor for his kind gesture and for remembering his roots and prayed that this would not be the end of his support to the school.


Master Baffour Agyare, captain of the school team, thanked Private Anokye-Gyamfi and prayed for God's protection for him adding that the donation will go a long way in inspiring them to improve upon their standard of play.
