Warangal, India (The Hindu) -- Indian police arrested a youth from the Republic of Ghana on the charge of collecting money from a local businessman promising him millions in return.
Superintendent of Police Soumya Mishra said Kwamena Apele and his associates established contact with Agarwal through Internet. The gang promised to help Agarwal win British global online lottery.
They said he won the lottery worth Rs. 8 crore for which he needed to pay a processing fee of Rs. 14 lakh online. Sensing foul play, Agarwal asked them to send someone to collect the amount in Warangal.
When Apele arrived here, Agarwal tried to clear his doubts, but in vain. He promptly informed police who, on interrogation, found him duping gullible persons. Police are now looking out for his associates — Davidson Johnson, Jorge and others. The SP said with cyber crimes involving African nationals on the rise, the district police had decided to inform CBI and Interpol authorities. She cautioned people not to fall prey to false promises and be wary of such persons.
