Ghanaian soccer fans in Brazil to watch matches on TV - Ephson reveals

The Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, Ben Ephson, has disclosed that a large number of Ghanaian supporters who will be airlifted to Brazil will watch the matches on television sets in the South American country.

He revealed that some supporters, because of the lack of tickets, will resort to viewing some of the World Cup matches on TV in Brazil.

Speaking in an interview with host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM, Ben Ephson said there are about 7000 soccer fans booked for the World Cup and "as at January this year, the Sports Ministry estimated that the cost of sending a spectator to Brazil will amount to Ghc 27000 per head" but "quite a number of the visas that have been issued; there are no tickets for internal flights.”

Some matches, he stated, are "337 miles away, 454 miles away and 924 miles away."

Despite the massive public outcry over the airlifting of supporters to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup; it appears the Sports Ministry is also singing Daddy Lumba's hit single "Yen Tie Obiaa", in local parlance means "we won't listen to anybody."

It appears it’s just a matter of time and the hullabaloo regarding the pros and cons of sending football fans to Brazil will simply die a natural death.
