Ghanaian students win world essay competition

Accra, Oct. 19, GNA - Two Ghanaian students have won the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation's (FAO) essay competition for this year.

The students are Anthony Teye of the Forjourkrom D/A Junior High School in the Amenfi West District of the Western Region and Love Amevinya of the Swedru Unique Academy in the Central Region, the FAO said in Accra on Tuesday.

Master Teye took the overall prize in the junior category while Master Amevinya came sixth in the senior category.

For their prize, Master Teye took home a cash prize of 500 dollars, a bronze medal and set of books in the junior category while Amevinya took home a medal and a set of books as his prize.

The topic of the essay was: 93United against Hunger."

The competition is organised every two years and is open to all member states of the United Nations with two categories, junior category ranging from 11 to 14 years and senior category from 15 to 17 years.

The first winner from the senior category comes from Italy.

FAO wished the award winners the very best in their academic endeavours.
