THE decision taken by Ghanaian voters on December 7, 2016, was loud and clear. That they wanted a new direction so far as the administration of this country was concerned.

THAT the governing party at the time—National Democratic Congress (NDC)—led by former President John Dramani Mahama, had not performed to the satisfaction of majority of citizens in this country.

THEREFORE, it was on that basis that many Ghanaian voters voted against the NDC and entrusted the administration of the country into the hands of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

AND once elected into power we expected the Akufo-Addo administration to hit the ground running working diligently to fulfil its manifesto promises to the good people of this country. It also meant that we all support the new government to succeed as the fruits of its labour will trickle down to the masses of this country.

PRESIDENT Akufo-Addo has said severally that he will not spend time grumbling over the economy that was bequeathed to him by the erstwhile Mahama administration. Certainly, Today does not expect the Akufo-Addo administration to constantly be reminding us of the past administration.

TODAY believes that majority of Ghanaians went in for a change of government because in their view the Mahama NDC government had not done much to improve their lot among other reasons and that the NPP led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the run-up to last year’s election could bring the needed change Ghanaians desired for.

FOR us at Today we do not see the point where the current administration subtly constantly makes reference to the past administration. In any case, why are they in power? Is not because they told us plainly that they have what it takes to fix our problems and improve our lot?

THIS is why we are sometimes taken aback when President Akufo-Addo makes reference to what he has described as economic mess inherited by his administration.

IN our estimation, the Akufo-Addo administration must focus instead of addressing our economic challenges and implementing policies that will improve our well-being, instead of this often the usual refrain inheriting a messed economy.

MORE so we equally become worried when leaders of this country especially engage in any public discourse that will not add any value to the ordinary Ghanaian. Thus it is sickening this whole debate of founder/founders of this country?

YES, we agree that our history must not be distorted. We also admit that our history is very important as that allows us to understand our past, which in turn allows us to understand our present.

BUT in all these, the question Today wants to ask is: will it put food on the table of the ordinary jobless Ghanaian who is desperately looking for ajob? Absolutely not!

WHAT Ghanaians want are decent jobs that will enable them to make ends meet. It also includes good roads, quality schools, better heal facilities, potable water among other basic services.

THE above are things that will add value to the lives of Ghanaians and not this whole public debate of who the real founder(s) of Ghana is/are.
