Ghanaians asked to beware of vote buying politicians

New Edubiase (Ash), Oct 4, GNA - The Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, the Moderator-elect of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, warned Ghanaians against 'vote buying' politicians and said they did not seek the welfare of the electorate. Dr Frimpong-Manso, who was addressing a cross section of the Church members at New Edubiase in the Adansi South district on Sunday, said the selling of votes, particularly by Christians was sinful and appealed to Christians to pray for peace before, during and after the elections He said Christians were obliged to ensure a stable political atmosphere adding that religion strive on peace and stability.

Dr Frimpong-Manso urged the electorate to vote for competent candidates in the December polls to help eliminate poverty, disease, ignorance and illiteracy.

He advised the youth not to allow, "Stomach politicians" to manipulate them to cause confusion and violence during the 2004 General Election.

Mr Dominic Yeboah, the Adansi South District Chief Executive, said the church and the state were intrinsically linked and so there must be concerted efforts from both the state and Christians to ensure peace.

He pointed out that the desire of Christians to serve the Lord wholeheartedly will not be possible in an atmosphere of acrimony and rancour and therefore urged Christians to strive to protect the peace being enjoyed now so that they can continue to worship God better.
