Ghanaians express mixed-feeling over President Mahama's swearing-in

A cross section of the general public have welcomed the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama as the new president of the country with mixed feelings.

“As the Constitution demands, he has to be sworn-in though another political party the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is contesting the Election 2012 Presidential results,” Ms Daniel Nuamah, a fuel attendant at Madina Zongo Junction Shell Filling Station told the Ghana News Agency on Monday.

She explained that “for the growth of democracy the NPP and any other political party that did have some concerns must continue to pursue the legal option”.

She appreciated the legal stand taken up by the NPP and commended the leadership of the party for their braveness.

Ms Nuamah urged others to emulate the NPP’s example in subsequent elections instead of resorting to violence.

Ms Lamisi Alhassan a seamstress at Madina lauded the whole organization of the inauguration and said, “What we need is peace and I am happy that the whole country is peaceful as we have been praying for”.

Maame Attaa Nyarkoa a a trader at the Madina Market told the GNA she was expecting peace, harmony and unity from the new President noting, “he should also ensure that our youth who walk about aimless are given meaningful jobs to do”.

Pastor Kofi Aninakwa of the Praise Palace Church International at the Adentan Barrier, urged the Judiciary to be truthful and urged the two main political parties to accept the ruling of the Supreme Court.
