The main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) says the Akufo-Addo government has been rejected by Ghanaians over nine times in three years ahead of the 2020 polls.

“I can list a number of the poor decisions that Ghanaians have rejected including the controversial parliament chamber, towing levy, licensed vehicle levy, Comprehensive Sexuality Education(CSE), AMERI, Embassy in Oslo, PDS, and the December 17 Referendum among others. What it simply tells you is that the Akufo-Addo has been rejected over nine times in three years and Ghanaians have won yet again against the Akufo-Addo government.” a Deputy General Secretary of the NDC told Kasapa 102.5 FM Monday.

The President in a televised address Sunday announced the cancellation of the referendum over what he says is lack of consensus.

“So fellow Ghanaians, it is of deep regret that I have given instructions to the minister for local government and Rural development who will spearhead the process with commendable vigour and dynamism on behalf of the government to abort the process and see to the withdrawal of the bills for the amendment of the constitution both in respect of article 24 (31) and Article 52 (2),” he said.

Reacting to the development, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Peter Boamah Otukunor said “what has caused the President to withdraw the move is the resolve, anger, and the mass action that awaited the President if he’d gone ahead with the decision about the referendum.”

He claimed there was a clear signal that the Presidency was toying with the fortunes of the NPP in 2020 general elections because the dynamics of the December Referendum “was a 7th December come early,” hence the cancellation of the whole democratic exercise[Referendum].
