Celebration to mark 51 years of Ghana’s Independence by Ghanaians in Italy will be hosted in Vicenza on 8th March.

A program details from the Council of Ghanaian Nationals Association in Italy (COGNAI) says the event is jointly being hosted by the Council and the Ghana Embassy in Rome and will take place at Theatre Pasubio, located in Schio - an outskirt of Vicenza in the north of Italy.

Special Guest of Honor is Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy, His Excellency Charles Agyei-Amoama who will be accompanied by some members of staff of the Ghana Embassy in Rome.

The President of COGNAI, Omari Somuah, giving briefs of the celebration said the day’s program will start at 4p.m and end at 11p.m. “Ghana’s day of Independence falls on March 6 but we’ve decided to shift the program to Saturday 8th March to enable many people to participate. We are expecting a good number of Ghanaians and their friends - both Italians and other nationals - to come. Every year in Italy the big event of the celebration is focused in Rome and it’s the first time the Ambassador has decided to come and meet Ghanaians in Italy outside Rome to celebrate. The Ghana@50 in Italy was a celebration with a different dimension but this is going to be another great occasion and we’re looking forward to it,” says the COGNAI President.

The Ghana Ambassador to Italy would be giving the key note address which would be followed by remarks by Religious Leaders, Presidents of Ghanaians Associations in Italy and words of advise.

Ghana’s traditional dances of ‘adowa’,‘kete’, and cultural display will form part of the event. Featuring on the program is Ghana’s highlife music star, Amakye Dede. Vicenza Brass Band and Ablade Musical Group would also be making an appearance. Amakye Dede who is on Europe tour is being promoted by Abena Richard Entertainment and will perform in a special concert in the Italian city Modena on 23rd of this month.
