Ghanaians in Sierra Leone donate water tanks to police

Accra, Aug. 30, GNA - Mr Kabral Blay Amihere, Ghana's Ambassador to the Sierra Leone on Monday said the Ghanaian community in Sierra Leone were committed to mobilising funds to assist the government in its efforts to improve conditions of public institutions in the country. He said the community through its "dollar a month project" launched in 2002 in which the few Ghanaians living there were contributing money to be used to purchase items to be presented to institutions back home. Ambassador Amihere said this when he donated 10 "Rambo" water tanks to the Ghana Police Service for use in the police training schools. The tanks were purchased from such contribution He said last year the community contributed 21,000 dollars and this year 23,000 dollars had so far been realised.

Mr Amihere said the community had also presented similar tanks to the Pantang and Ankaful Hospitals and some schools.


He said the community was in support of the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Health's Soap and Hygiene programme which was to inculcate in pupils the habit of hand washing wit soap. Mrs Elizabeth Mills-Robertson, Deputy Inspector General of Police, in-charge of Administration, thanked the community and said it was heart warming to know that Ghanaians in that country had not forgotten their roots.

She said the police training institution needed a lot of facilities to enable them to produce the calibre of policemen that the country needed.
