Ghanaians to suffer loadshedding early 2017

Power supply is scheduled to be managed in February and March, 2017, according to a letter intercepted by 3news.com.

The letter was written by the Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Kirk Koffi, to his counterpart at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), advising “our Plant Managers to manage the power system during the above-stated period to limit any supply challenges”.

The subject of letter – copied to the Minister of Power – is ‘Disruption in Gas Supply’, implying that there will be shortage in gas supply to the country’s thermal plants.

It says forecast by Ghana Gas Company Limited suggests that there will be a 15-day period of no supply in February while the whole of the following month will also experience same. “From all indications, power from Ameri Energy will also not be available during that period.”

Ghanaians have been saved the frustration of loadshedding popularly known as dumsor in the lead-up to the elections. Some energy experts had predicted a return to the dumsor period but the predictions were roundly dismissed by the government.

If the letter is anything to go by, Ghanaians will be suffering loadshedding at a time the country will be 60 years.
