Koforidua, March 25, GNA- The Anglican Bishop of Koforidua, the Right Reverend Benjamin Francis Quashie, has called on Ghanaians to sacrifice for the good of the nation.

He said the lesson of Good Friday was how Jesus Christ went through suffering in humility, obedience as a sacrifice for the good of mankind. Rt. Rev. Quashie therefore called on people holding political positions to sacrifice and work hard to ensure that President John Agyekum Kufuor's desire to see the country achieve an eight per cent annual growth rate is made possible.

Preaching at the local St. Peter's Anglican Cathedral on Good Friday, he advised politicians not to see their appointments as an opportunity to "grab" but to sacrifice for the down-trodden.

He said it was only when the people see them (ministers) sacrificing some of the privileges attached to their offices that they would be committed to support national development.

At the Koforidua Wesley Methodist Cathedral, the Circuit Superintendent of the Church, the Very Rev. M. A. Mpare-Gyekye, observed that despite the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on Good Friday to save the world from sin, most Christians continued to live sinful lives. Very Rev. Mpare-Gyekye said the development of the country had retarded due to the negative attitude of the citizenry, citing Christians who go to work late and were often among the first to leave the office and yet expect higher salaries.
