President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
A leading New Patriotic Party (NPP) member has said Ghanaians will acknowledge President Akufo-Addo's achievement when he exits office in 2025.
Speaking on Channel One TV, monitored by GhanaWeb, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko stated that despite the current economic challenges and global state of affairs, the successes chalked by the Akufo-Addo government will be visible to Ghanaians later.
The lawyer cum businessman highlighted the huge work done by the Akufo-Addo government, especially in the health sector.
He asserted that no government under the Fourth Republic could rival the work done by the Akufo-Addo administration.
"If you consider the challenges of leadership, the challenges of managing an economy such as ours and those challenges being compounded by the global challenges that faced them, I think when Ghanaians sit back and analyse his period after he's gone, they will appreciate the Akufo-Addo's presidency. When you are in there, you can't really see that much.
"Let me try and take a few sectors; health, I can say boldly, based on numbers, that in the 4th Republic, no government has been able to do the kind of things we have witnessed under Akufo-Addo's presidency. On three, four fronts within the health sector alone, in terms of facilities, in terms of that amazing thing that former Kufuor built, the National Health Insurance Scheme, where he has taken it.
"In terms of personnel, over the last seven to eight years, over 2,000 people have been employed in the health sector. Look at the number of doctors employed over the last few years, I believe over 22,000, nurses about 165,000 or so.
"My point is that the expansion that we have seen in the health sector, in terms of access to health, in terms of personnel, in terms of even remunerations. There are so many polyclinics that have been built," Gabby stated.
According to Otchere-Darko, almost 90 of the hospitals under the Agenda 111 project are 65% complete.
"I don't think that even in the history of the world, you would have seen such an ambitious project being done. Almost 90% of them are at 65% completion," Otchere-Darko stated.
