Ghanaians will never forgive Akufo-Addo if coronavirus claims more lives - Lawyer Sosu

The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) candidate for Madina Constituency, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has stated that Ghanaians will never forgive president Akufo-Addo if the deadly Coronavirus keeps claiming the lives of Ghanaians.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday, 19 April 2020, lifted the three-week partial lockdown in Greater Accra, Kasoa, Greater Kumasi, and Tema citing achievements made with aggressive contact-tracing and enhanced testing capacities which have made it possible to contain the spread of the virus in the country despite 1,042 positive cases.

However, Sosu in an interview with GhanaWeb described Akufo-Addo’s decision to lift the ban on restrictions of movement as a reckless disregard for human life.

He stressed that Ghanaians will never forgive the president if the novel coronavirus keeps sweeping the lives of several Ghanaians “especially those based in Ghana”.

“Ghana contracted the coronavirus disease due to the indecision of the President and its cabinet ministers and that has led to the suffering of Ghanaians.

“The president cannot escape the blame of the coronavirus outbreak in Ghana. At the time that countries were closing their borders in order to prevent the spread of the disease, our borders were open and we were still accepting foreign nationals.

“It is the responsibility of the president to ensure that its citizens are in good health, I always say that when it comes to human rights there are two things involved that is the right holders and the duty bearers. In this circumstance, the right holder is the Ghanaian citizen and the state is the duty bearer thus it’s the responsibility of the state to ensure Ghanaians are in good health. So what this means is that the state must be held accountable for any major outbreak of the global pandemic.” He insisted.
