Ghanaian media personality Ohemaa Woyeje has issued a stern warning to newly elected Members of Parliament, John Dumelo and Baba Sadiq, urging them to work diligently to earn the trust and support of their constituencies.

In a video shared on Instagram on December 12, 2024, Ohemaa Woyeje emphasised that the two MPs must not take their positions for granted now that they have been elected.

She specifically highlighted the case of Baba Sadiq, the MP-elect for Okaikwei Central, advising him to learn from the fate of his predecessor, Patrick Boamah.

Ohemaa said that despite Boamah's significant contributions to the constituency, including the construction of roads in the Fadama area, he was voted out of office in the 2024 election.

She then warned Sadiq that the same could happen to him if he does not meet his constituents' expectations.

"Ghanaians must continue holding politicians accountable like this. If this trend continues, politicians will have to sit up. Patrick Boamah did a lot for his constituency, he constructed all the roads in Fadama, but look how he was voted out. This should serve as a lesson to Baba Sadiq. Well, I do not know the other things the constituents are expecting from him but the man really worked,” she stated.

She also addressed John Dumelo, the MP-elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon, advising him to honour the promises he made during his campaign.

Ohemaa Woyeje reminded Dumelo that his victory will not guarantee a second term if he fails to deliver on his commitments.

"John Dumelo, do you remember how hard you fought to win the seat? If you don't deliver, you'll be voted out in the next election. Four years may seem far, but they will come quickly. We, the people, have the power to decide who stays and who goes," she warned.

Background

Baba Sadiq, a music investor cum politician, contested the Okaikwei Central seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In the closely contested 2024 elections, Sadiq garnered 15,383 votes, narrowly defeating the incumbent Patrick Boamah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who received 14,949 votes. This was Sadiq's first time running for parliament.

In Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, actor cum politician, John Dumelo, also emerged victorious, winning 47,560 votes to defeat Lydia Alhassan, the NPP candidate, who received 39,214 votes.

Dumelo's win is seen as a significant political shift in a constituency traditionally considered an NPP stronghold.
