....THEY AGREE WITH DISSENTING DIRECTORS
The Ghana Airways Staff Association (GASSA) has dared the Minister for Roads and Transport, Dr. Richard Anane, to let the Public know the real reason why he did not have an open tender process to find a joint venture partner for Ghana Airways (GHANAIR).
GASSA’s stand is in line with that of three of the seven members of GHANAIR’s Board of Directors.
The three, including Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, Ms. Gloria Akuffo, have disagreed with government’s decision of initiating a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Nationwide Airlines of South Africa.
They have rather recommended that the government initiate an open tender process to ensure better opportunities in the range of officers available.
The other two directors who share Ms. Akuffo’s view are Messrs Albert Osei and Lawrence Diabah.
Dr. Anane, has however, defended the decision not to opt for an open tender. He explained that Ghana Airways is “very sick”, yet, as a corporate entity, it did not deserve to have details of it’s problems publicized as an open tender process would demand.
Two spokesmen of GASSA, Messrs Richard Wobil (Chairman) and D.K. Omane (Secretary) told daily dispatch that the reason given by the Minister is far from the truth.
They wondered if those state enterprises, which were divested through open tender were not corporate entities and whether they did not have problems.
