Gifty Oware-Mensah is a former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority
A former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Gifty Oware-Mensah, has reportedly been released from the custody of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
This follows her detention and interrogation by the security agencies in connection with an ongoing investigation into payroll fraud during her tenure, according to citinewsroom.com.
Oware-Mensah returned to Ghana on Tuesday, March 5, 2025, amid speculations that she had fled the country. However, she was reportedly arrested on Friday, March 7, and detained briefly before being granted release on Saturday, March 8, after cooperating with investigators.
According to Citi, she is expected to further engage the security officials as the investigations into the ghost names discovery progresses.
Background
President John Dramani Mahama ordered the NIB to conduct an immediate investigation into the operations of the NSS under the previous government following the discovery of up to 81,885 suspected ghost names on the Authority’s payroll.
Gifty Oware-Mensah was allegedly a beneficiary of the scandal during her tenure at the NSS and was invited by the NIB for questioning.
