Girl, 12, Gunned Down

A 12-year-old school girl, Alice Yeboah, has been shot dead at Nasana, near Seikwa in the Tain District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

Alice’s death occurred on Friday, November 5, when the alleged ‘killer’ Kwadwo Dwomoh, 20, went berserk after he had seized a single barrelled-gun and given a warning shot to scare people around the area. Interestingly, Alice bought the cartridge that sent her to the world beyond.

The body of the little girl has since been deposited at the Sunyani Regional Hospital pending autopsy.

The Berekum Divisional Crime Officer, ASP Emmanuel Isaka and the Investigator, Sergeant S.S. Nartey, told DAILY GUIDE that Dwomoh, who is currently in police custody, took the gun from his uncle’s room after his father asked him to surrender a bicycle which belonged to the father.

According to the report, the young man got furious about his father’s action, so he later broke into his uncle’s room and picked the gun to embark on a shooting spree to register his displeasure.

The police said after the first shot in the air, Dwomoh’s grandmother, who was the only person in the house, ordered some people to pursue the ‘killer’ and seize the gun from him since he could use it to harm other people, but Dwomoh managed to escape.

According to the police report, Dwomoh met the deceased in the company of two children aged 5 and 7, as they were going to fetch firewood.

The ‘killer’ asked one of them to buy cartridge for him but she refused, so he gave the money to Alice to buy it for him, and she obliged.

The police stated that after the two children had waited for a long time and Alice had not returned, they went to the farm and left her behind.

When she returned with the cartridge, Dwomoh led her to the bush and allegedly shot her and dumped her body in a nearby farm.

Later in the evening, when the deceased did not return home, a search party was organized to look for her but they could not trace her.

However, upon another search the following day, the body of the deceased was found in the bush. The suspect, upon his arrest, admitted to committing the offence.
