A six-year-old boy has been dangerously injured beneath the eye region by a five-year-old girl at Agyeiwaa- Lodge, a suburb of Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The incident occurred when the victim and other friends went to the premises of the house where the girl lives with the parents for viewing of flocking birds who have nested on a Palm Tree in the house.

Information gathered indicate, the five-year-old girl took a knife in her reach, asked the children to leave which in the processes cut the lower part of the victim’s eye.

He has since been treated and discharged at the Eastern Regional Hospital. It is not clear if the injury suffered by the victim will affect his vision.

According to the Children’s Act,1998, “every parent has rights and responsibilities whether imposed by law or otherwise towards his child which include the duty to:(a) protect the child from neglect, discrimination, violence, abuse, exposure to physical and moral hazards and oppression; (c) ensure that in the temporary absence of a parent, the child shall be cared for by a competent person and that a child under eighteen months of age shall only be cared for by a person of fifteen years and above except where the parent has surrendered his rights and responsibilities in accordance with law”.

The Section 15 of Act explains that “Any person who contravenes a provision of this Sub-Part commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding c5million or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding one year or to both.”
