The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed the death of a six-year-old girl following a fire outbreak in Osu, a suburb of Accra Friday.
According to reports, a nine-month-old baby also sustained some burns while two other children escaped unscathed when the fire gutted a building.
The Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Prince Anaglatey, gave the assurance that the child is receiving treatment at the hospital, and the fire has been put under control.
“One child died, we were told it was a six-year-old girl that died. The younger one, the [9-month-old baby], received some burns but she is also recouping. When I was at the hospital, they had treated her but she has to be sent to Korle Bu,” the fire spokesperson told Accra-based Citi FM.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
“We have initiated our preliminary investigations as to what exactly occurred but it will be too difficult for us now to say exactly what happened. We are still here and we will ensure that the components that shows to be the potential [cause] of the fire will be examined critically,” Anaglatey stated.
