Girl burnt in fire inferno.

Koforidua, June 2, GNA- A 14-year-old pupil of the Koforidua Presbyterian JSS met her untimely death when she perished in a fire outbreak in her parents residence in the early hours of Friday. Patricia Hevi, whose charred body had since been deposited at the Koforidua Regional Hospital's morgue, was apparently sleeping when the fire broke out around 0500 hours.

Her parents, Mr and Mrs Oscar Bennet Hevi, however, managed to escape death but their efforts and that of well-wishers failed to rescue the victim from the blazing fire that razed the family apartments to ashes until the Ghana National Fire Service in Koforidua Municipal office eventually managed to extinguish the fire. The parents, who also suffered burns from the disaster were currently receiving medical attention at the same hospital. The Eastern Regional Fire, Mr Solomon Mensah, confirmed the incident and explained that the Municipal Office who, upon receiving the distressed call at dawn, rushed to the scene to contain the situation which prevented the raging embers from surging to other state facilities nearby.

He attributed the incident to electricity fault but said investigations were continuing.

The Hevi's residence which also houses their private Ogua Secretarial School, is a few metres from the Institute of Adult Education of the University of Ghana offices and a few metres from the office complex housing most of the decentralized departments in the region.

The GNA's visit to the building revealed that almost all personal effects of the Hevi's got burnt with some plume from a minor smoldering still evident.

The incident attracted a large crowd to the spot who watched the retrieving of Patricia's dismembered remains.
