Give women chance in affairs of Islam - DCE

Gomoa Ankamu (C/R), July 11, GNA - The Gomoa District Chief Executive, Miss Joyce Aidoo, has appealed to leaders of the Islamic religion to allow women to play a leading role in the affairs of the religion.

Miss Aidoo said any misconception about women should be erased to allow them to express their views in mosques and public gatherings. She made the appeal at a meeting at Gomoa Ankamu of Muslim women drawn from 13 communities in the Gomoa District on Sunday. The DCE noted that because of this misconception the males of the religion saw the education of the girl-child as not important since their office was the kitchen.

She predicted that the religion could move faster if serious attention was given to the education of the girl-child. Miss Comfort Morgan, Gomoa District Information Officer and Assembly Member for Apam Nsawam-Bombua-Adanka Electoral Area spoke on the Health Insurance Scheme and assured the people that there would be no discrimination in service delivery under the scheme. "The rich and the poor will receive equal attention at the health institutions" She said.

Miss Morgan said nurses have been oriented to enable them to offer more friendly services under the scheme. Mr. Justice Essiaw, Assembly Member for Gomoa Ankamu, appealed to the people to take advantage of the opportunities being offered by the government and the organizations to improve the lot of women to go into income generating venture to support their husbands in the house keeping.

The Deputy Gomoa District Imam Bashir Iddris Ntsie, urged Muslims to be time conscious.
