The Ministry of Health has appealed to picketing members of the Coalition of Unemployed Private Nurses to return home as their issues are addressed by the Ministry of Finance.

The nurses on Monday, 31 July began their picketing and passed the night at the ministry as they have threatened not to return home until their concerns are addressed.

The nurses, about 5000, were trained in private schools. They have accused government of bias. They argue that they have been home since 2012 and all efforts to get government to give them jobs have proved futile while their colleague nurses who trained in public schools are given preference over them.

Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday, 1 August, Mr Robert Cudjoe, PRO for the Ministry said: “We know picketing is their democratic right but we are appealing to them to go back home as we resolve the issues.

“The international community is watching what is happening and that is not good for the image of the country.

“We at the Ministry of Health are just waiting on the Finance Ministry to give us the go-ahead to employ them. That ministry will have to give the nurses the financial clearance, and, so that is what we are waiting for currently.”

Meanwhile, some of the picketing nurses who were in the studios of Accra FM threatened to rain curses on the Minister of Health if their issues are not addressed immediately.
