The National Election Security Taskforce has urged security personnel nationwide to actively participate in the Special Voting exercise scheduled for Monday, December 2, 2024.
"The National Election Security Taskforce wishes to inform all personnel of the security agencies that the special voting, slated for tomorrow, December 2, 2024, is going to take place as scheduled across the country with the exception of Eastern and Western Regions," a press statement on December 1, 2024, said.
However, the Electoral Commission (EC) has postponed the exercise in the Eastern and Western Regions due to issues with the quality of ballot papers.
The EC has decided to recall and reprint the affected ballot papers, ensuring they meet the required standards.
Voting in these regions has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2024.
The Commission has assured stakeholders that efforts are being made to resolve the matter swiftly to minimize disruptions.
"The Electoral Commission, in collaboration with the political parties, has decided to postpone the special voting only for Eastern and Western Regions, which will be held at a later date during the week.
"Those who are supposed to vote in the two affected regions will be given the opportunity to cast their votes when a new date is announced by the Electoral Commission.
"All personnel of all the security agencies are, therefore, directed to come out in their numbers tomorrow, December 2, 2024, to cast their votes," the statement added.
The Ghana Police Service reassured security personnel in the two affected regions that they would not be disenfranchised due to the postponement.
The National Election Security Taskforce has directed all security personnel in unaffected regions to turn out in their numbers and participate in the Special Voting exercise as scheduled.
