Accra - The dismisal of the Asunafo District Chief Executive, Solomon Opoku Gyamera, from office by the president has been hailed as victory for democracy by the people of the area.

A random survey conducted by the Chronicle at Goaso last Friday revealed that four out of every five people interviewed expressed satisfaction over the dismissal of the DCE.

The DCE, a three-year Post-Sec trained teacher and popularly called Kofi Solo, has over the last few months been in the centre of storm over allegations of corruption and graft that has seen him rise from a poor teacher to a flamboyant and arrogant politician over the last seven years as DCE.

Conservatively, NDC sources at Goaso put the acquired wealth of the dismissed DCE at over ?2 billion since he assumed the mantle of Asunafo DCE.

A top NDC party executive who pleaded anonymity described the dismissal as timely and a victory for democracy.

"Party members were leaning in droves because of the DCE's behaviour as it was against the very principles of the June 4 uprising" he told Chronicle.

Kwasi Agyei, a 40-year old teacher said those of us governed must at least have a say in how we are governed and the removal of the DCE is a demonstration of the people's will to have a say in how the grassroots should be run.

A member of the NDC group that championed the removal of the DCE and who also pleaded anonymity said despite the use of combined team of military and police personnel to quell our demonstration over his removal, we have managed to achieve our aim.

The member promised Chronicle that they would do everything to let the dismissed DCE account for his stewardship.

Opoku Gyamfera would account for how he acquired the seven houses including the Anansekrom within the short period, the member said.

We are not doing this for political expediency or being manipulated by the opposition. After all these are the very principle we stood against during the revolution and people are hiding behind the party to embezzle the taxpayers money, he confided in the Chronicle
