THIRTY-Six-year-old Emmanuel Kweku Twum, a supervisor at the Tema Community 1 branch of the Goil Filling Station was yesterday arraigned before the Tema Circuit Court ‘A’ for stealing coupons worth GH¢38,330.00 belonging to his employers.

The accused, Twum who pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing with explanation was convicted on his own plea by the Circuit Court presided over by Eric Kyei Baffour and the sentence was deferred to July 18, 2013.

Prosecution in a narration to the court mentioned the complainant as Emmanuel Heletsi, manager of the Tema Community 1 Goil Filling Station whilst the accused person, Emmanuel Kweku Twum, is a supervisor of the said station and resides near the filling station.

According to prosecution, during the month of June 2013, the accused was sent to deliver some coupons which were used by customers to purchase fuel at the station to the head office in Accra for retention. Emmanuel Kweku Twum, perhaps, thinking he was smart failed to send the coupons worth GH¢38,330.00 to the Hhad office as instructed by his superior at the Community 1 branch but rather gave them out to some of his friends to be sold.

The accused, according to prosecution, managed to forge signatures of receiving clerks at the head office to make his employers believe he had submitted the coupons. His action was said to have gone unnoticed for some time until it was detected when the statement of account of the company for that period did not reflect the returned coupons to the office.

In his explanation the accused noted that he was misled by his friends into committing the crime and further stated he did not know the true value of the coupons until he was arrested by the police. He prayed the court to deal with him leniently promising never to engage in such act again.
