Two suspected armed robbers believed to be part of a five-member gang that attacked some small-scale gold miners at Adaase in the Asankragwaa district of the Western Region in January this year have been arrested at Kasoa, Central Region.

The suspects are Ali Amidu, 27 years old and Karim Azima, 25.

Two of their accomplices, identified only as Lukeman and Tahiru Asibi aka 19, were reportedly lynched in the course of the robbery but their driver, identified as Idrissu Mohammed, was apprehended, according to police reports.

However, police reports indicated that the arrested suspect fled the scene and settled at Kasoa to avoid arrest.

They were all fished out upon a tip-off on February 24, 2016, at an area close to Budumburam, near Kasoa.

Confirming the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, Superintendent Samuel Punobyin, Kasoa District Police Commander, said the two suspects joined the three others to rob some small-scale miners at Adaase, using an AK 47 assault rifle.

In the course of the robbery, residents descended on the robbers, overpowered them and managed to lynch Lukeman and Tahiru Asibi.

The third suspect, Idrissu Mohammed, who allegedly drove the suspects to the area, was arrested and handed over to the police.

The commander said Mohammed had since been remanded into police custody by a circuit court atAsankragwaa pending trial.

Superintendent Samuel Punobyin corroborated the escape of Ali Amidu and Karim Azuma who relocated at Kasoa and their arrests by the police

They would be handed over to the Asankragwaa district police for prosecution.
