GoldBod Jewellery Limited, a subsidiary of the Ghana Gold Board, has issued a statement clarifying its involvement in the Women of Valour event following criticism from some Ghanaians on social media over what they perceived to be the company’s sponsorship of the programme.

The clarification comes after videos and images circulating online showed the company listed among partners of the women-focused event, triggering backlash from some netizens who questioned why the state-linked jewellery brand would support what they described as a private event.

In a statement issued on its X page on March 8, 2026, responding to the concerns, GoldBod Jewellery explained that it did not provide financial sponsorship for the event and was only listed as a partner because it offered promotional discounts to participants.

“GoldBod Jewellery Limited is listed as one of the partners of this year’s Women of Valour event because the company offered discounts on jewellery purchases to participants of the programme as part of our ongoing Ghana Heritage Month promotions, similar to our Valentine’s Month discounts,” the company stated.

The company emphasised that its involvement was purely promotional and not financial.

“The company did not contribute funds toward the organisation of the event,” the statement added.

According to GoldBod Jewellery, the promotional offer forms part of its broader efforts to market locally produced jewellery while celebrating Ghanaian heritage.

“At GoldBod Jewellery, we focus on manufacturing and retailing timeless pieces of made-in-Ghana jewellery for our valued customers in Ghana and abroad,” the statement noted.

The controversy emerged after online discussions questioned the company’s recognition as a partner for the Women of Valour event, with some users suggesting that public resources may have been used to support the programme.

The backlash began after a photo circulated online indicating that GoldBod Jewellery, as a government institution, sponsored the recently concluded Woman of Valor event in the UK on March 7, 2026.

Founded by renowned broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah, the event brought together women from diverse backgrounds at the London Hilton on Park Lane to network and celebrate the International Women’s Day.

However, social media users questioned both the GoldBod Jewellery and the Woman of Valor initiative.

Some argued that the event was not accessible to the general public, despite being promoted as an empowerment program.
