Gomoa Central District Chief Executive (DCE), Benjamin Kojo Otoo
A 15- Member Area Council Committee for Gomoa Aboso Number two has been Inaugurated with a call on them to work tirelessly to ensure effective running of the Gomoa Central District Assembly.
The Council is made up of 12 unit Committee members and three elected Assembly members of the Gomoa Central Assembly from four towns that constitute the Area Council.
They are; Gomoa Akropong Number two, Gomoa Ekroful, Gomoa Aboso and Gomoa Benso.
Inaugurating the Committee, Mr Benjamin Kojo Otoo, Gomoa Central District Chief Executive (DCE) said per the ACT 936 of the Local Government, the District was supposed to have four Area Councils to support the administration of the district.
The 15- Member Committee was under the Chairmanship of Nana Odoom Amafo, a retired Chief Inspector of Ghana Police Service and Chief of Gomoa Akropong Number two.
According to the DCE, the Committee members were charged to assist the management on sanitation and infrastructural development in the four towns.
The DCE stated that the committee was to help identify real needs of the people and recommend to the District Assembly for the implementation of projects to promote decentralisation policy.
Mr Otoo hinted that the Committee would also synchronise mobilisation of revenue in order to increase Internally Generated Fund(IGF) of the assembly to help undertake more development projects.
According to him, the Assembly was mandated to cede 50 percent of the revenue collection in that particular area to the Committee members to enable them use for their own programmes, instead of relying on the assembly for financial assistance.
He said the committee would also report all problems that would emanate from the various communities under the Council to the District Assembly for action to be taken on such matters to enhance quality living standards of the people.
The DCE said the other three Area Councils namely;, Gomoa Afransi, Gomoa Ekwamkrom and Gomoa Pomadze/Aseibu would also be inaugurated soon to improve effective local government structures.
Nana Odoom Amafo, Chairman of the committee, on his part thanked the DCE, Presiding Member(PM) of Gomoa Central District Assembly, Mr Kweku Nyakoh Koomson and the entire Assembly members for their selection to assist the work of the assembly.
The Chairman gave the assurance that they would do everything possible to ensure that the Area Council worked to promote the interest of the people of Aboso, Benso, Ekroful and Akropong.
